Five Years and Counting

ONE mortgage, TWO dogs, THREE college degrees, FOUR cities all in FIVE remarkable years!
It's crazy to think that Oley and I have been married for Five Years!  I wouldn't have asked for a more perfect match, being able to find each other in Coos Bay, Oregon 7 years ago was a true work of God and we are grateful that it happened the way it has.  Looking back it's doesn't seem that long ago but what we have accomplished is remarkable.
Since Oley was away in Pocatello, trying to find a tenant for our home, he didn't get home till the evening of our anniversary so we just enjoyed an evening at home with the puppies.  I got our favorite recipe from my mom and cooked it up.  Even though I wanted to do something crazy special looking back I am glad we were able to celebrate in the comfort of our own home.
The set up.

It doesn't look that delicious, but believe me it is!

5 years and still going strong!
Even though we may have gained some weight, moved farther and farther from family, and ended up in totally different areas than we thought we would we still love each other more and more everyday.  I am glad that the Lord placed us in Coos Bay at the same time and we had the strength to let our friends know we were Mormon, through this knowledge our "Match Maker Krissy" was able to work her magic and here we are!
This warrants for a trip down memory lane.

Can't wait to see what the future holds!

Weaknesses = Patience

Isn't it funny how we are all created differently and all have our very own weaknesses.  The Lord knows these particular weaknesses and helps us develop them, as described in the scriptures Ether 12:27  "I give unto men weakness that they may be humble...for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then I will I make weak things becomes strong unto them".  Oley and I are learning our fair share of patience.  Be it our personal patience with one another or patience with things that are totally out of our control, but we learn through faith and hope that the Lord knows best.

We have been blessed numerous times in the past and through experiences we know that the Lord tries us at different levels as we continue to learn how to deal with our weaknesses.  It was a miracles Oley was able to find a tenant the day before our mortgage was due, it has been a miracle the way everything has worked out with this job and new city, and we continually see the miracles in our life that have occurred becuase of our faith that the Lord knows best and has a personal interest in us.
As stated in an earlier post we are working on an adoption.  We respect the birth mother more than we would ever have dreamed, and everything seemed to be going in our way.  Unfortunately, the Lord has another test of patience for us, but we know that through Him everything will work the way it needs to.  We have been blessed for the better in the past and we know that whatever He has in store will be what is best for us and our family.  It is through the times of trial and testing of our weaknesses that we must come unto the Lord and humble ourselves before Him or lose the faith that is needed to be blessed.  We hope that we are doing the right things that the Lord will bless us, for it is hope and faith that keep us going.

The Lonely Life

You never know how much you love some one until they are gone.  Oley took the puppies with him to Pocatello to find a tenant for our house, and I am more than ready for them to return I miss them all terribly.  We were starting to get extremely nervous becuase we have had the house posted for a month and haven't had any takers.  It has caused an extreme amount of stress in our lives and many prayers have been said, we are feeling extremely blessed we found a tenant!  It's little miracles like these that make us realize we do have a Father in Heaven that knows us individually and is there to help us.  We are so grateful that we were taught this at a young age and are fortunate enough to have this relationship.
Since the family has been gone my running gear and I have become extremely good friends (which is a good thing cause this desk job is not helping my figure).  But since I haven't been as active as I was when playing soccer I realize that working out sucks when you have no muscle left!  I feel like a huge bowl full of Jelly.
Which is probably becuase I eat like this.
So I guess the only way to fix this is to really make it a priority in my life.  Hopefully as soon as the family gets back and I can sleep again we can get back on track!  Here's to hoping!

Oh What a Day

You ever have one of those days that is just so completely up and down?  Well that was our day yesterday.  We woke up and did the usual Saturday morning things.  That afternoon we got ready and went to our ward get together.  We stopped at the mail box and had received our deposit from our rent in Spokane.   Needless to say I was not happy about the fact of the $1000 deposit we got $400 back (we left weeds in the lawn, and grass clippings in the back) Really?!? So I was super unhappy about that, but realized there was nothing I could do about it, so had to get over it.
We got to the ward BBQ, as we finished up eating I looked down and that horrible gut feeling I had 5 years ago had come back.  My ring, it wasn't on my finger.  I was in total panic mode.  As you recall I lost my engagement ring a week after Oley gave it to me, so I couldn't even think straight.  I searched the lawn, I retraced all my steps and the worst part about this whole experience was Oley acted as if nothing was happening.  This made me think maybe he took it, but once we got in the car he got extremely frustrated that I could lose 2 rings in a matter of 5 years.
There was no way he was buying me another one, and so much for my 5 year anniversary ring, cause there was no way he was buying that.  Rather than coming right home, so I could search the house up and down, he made us go deposit the check that I was already mad about.  I thought I was going to have a break down, it was a horrible day.  I just kept praying that I would find it and everything would work out, all I would get back was a feeling it would be okay. That wasn't good enough for me so I would pray again Just let me know where I left it.  As you all know the Lord doesn't really work like that so I had to go off of the fact I knew that it was going to work out, who knew how, but it would.
We pulled up to the house and I came in just in a mad search.  I had the thought that maybe I took it off while I was putting lotion on, as soon as I had that thought I ran up stairs and what do you know there was my ring sitting on the bathroom counter right where I left it.  I was so glad I found it, I said a prayer of thanks ran down and proclaimed my good news to Oley.  What a relief!  I no longer was even mad about the deposit becuase I realized life really could get worse, it's amazing the lessons we must learn.
Later that afternoon we took a little trip to a Bresemann Forest, which turned out to be a great idea.  It was such a fun little walking trail about 7 miles from our house.

Next time I will wear shoes. . . oops!

So excited for blackberries.  Everyone keeps telling us they are everywhere here.

The trail was full of little places that you could go right down to the creek.

It was really hot and so Dinky and Lily were more than happy to cool down in the creek.

We walked past a lady who told us there were big ol' bull frogs out there.

Unfortunately the camera didn't stay situated on the log better, so this didn't turn out as well as I would have liked.

The Land of the Free

Cool mornings, hot afternoons, and chilly evenings with the smell of BBQ and fresh fruit looming in the air, the constant snaps and crackles from fire works and twinklings in the sky, all reasons why we love the 4th of July.  Growing up my mom always made a big deal over holidays and the 4th was no different, we would take snacks or donuts to the parade, play outside until the fireworks, and then when the magical moment came we would head to Freeman Hill in Idaho Falls to enjoy the "Melaleuca Freedom Celebration".  Those were the days.
This is not my photo, one from the local newspaper in IF.
This past 4th we were unable to really do anything that the community was putting on, if they even were we didn't hear any advertisements, do to the fact Oley was working graveyards.  So we made the most of the day.  We woke up and took the dogs with us to the local Jr. High track so that we could all get in a good workout.  Lily loved the sparrows that were there, I wish I would have gotten a better video, she was chasing them everywhere.  When she couldn't catch them she would just be running and yapping at them.  It was funny, only becuase the sparrows knew that she was chasing them so would make her run in circles.
Once we got home Lily, Dinky, and I spent some time on the couch together while Oley showered.  As you can see I am still having a hard time being okay with the idea of putting holes in the wall, with the mirror still leaning against the wall.
After his shower he spent time filling out information on the It's About Love website and I went about making a flag fruit pizza.  It turned out Awesome!

Oley then BBQ'd up some pork chops for us, which were delicious!  And we had ourselves a little dinner before he had to go and nap so he could go to work.
His nap didn't last long, becuase the people and their fireworks here are crazy.  It seriously sounded as though we were in  a war zone from 7pm to 1am.  These people love fireworks.  I woke up the next morning and it was just this thick smoke, smog in the air.  It was gross!  The plus side was they don't have illegal ones in this town so we were able to watch everybody's becuase they were all shot in the air.
Since we have moved and Oley no longer has to work his security job we have realized we have become really FAT!  So now is the time for us to fix that problem.  Yesterday was the beginning of a new habit.  I started off by going for a 15 mile bike ride.  Was really excited to be riding to this lake, got there and couldn't even see the lake cause there were houses all lining it.  Lame!  But was able to see these views as I rode.
One of the roads I rode on

The view from the road behind our house. Oley always finds the farmer's fields and that's where we live. But the view of the Mountain makes it worth it.

My head is shaped in such a way that the bumps on my forward rub against my helmet and I end up looking like a devil women when I finish my rides.
Hopefully with this new job we will be able to see each other once in awhile and go and do some things.  It's so fun once you get somewhere new to be able to explore why the people love their town.

Big Changes!!

We missed Oley terribly after being away from us for what seemed like forever.  So in honor of his return we made him some cupcakes!  Or maybe it was because I knew if I wrote on them I wouldn't have them all eaten by the time he got here.

Since he has been home we still haven't seen much of him. The morning after he got here he had a job interview, with a member in the ward who had mentioned he had a job opening as we were moving in.  We were very grateful and excited for this opportunity and are pleased to announce that he will no longer have to work his security job and he is a new employee of UniFirst.

As eluded too in our tag line there is going to be BIG CHANGE in our lives, very soon. Back in March, the day before my defense I was in the library preparing.  I got a call from Lauralynn, but since I usually talked with her quite a bit I figured I really needed to focus on getting ready for my defense I ignored the call and decided I would call her later.  She not only left me a message, but sent a text message telling me she wanted to discuss something that she thought Oley and I would be perfect for.  As I wrapped up my studying and was walking to my office I gave her a call to see what was up, assuming she wanted us to take a vacation down to mom's or something.  But oh no this was much bigger than a quick vacation to mom's.  She mentioned to me that she had been working with a client who was pregnant, and a month or so before she was talking to her about how lucky she was to be able to become pregnant because there are many out there, like Oley and myself, who are unable to conceive.  That day Lauralynn received a text asking if her sister, me, would be willing to adopt her baby.  Lauralynn promptly called me to ask.
As anyone would be, I was kind of struck by the question.  Oley and I had discussed possibly starting the adoption process once I had gotten a good job, and my prayers up to that point had been that if I got through my schooling, found a job, that hopefully we would be able to start a family if that were to be Heavenly Father's plan for us.  I was very focused on getting my life in order so that we could be ready when He was ready to bless us with this opportunity.  A huge wave a gratification had come over me.  Once I was able to shift through all my emotions I tried Oley on his cell.  Since he was in class I sent him a quick text letting him know that I needed to talk with him about something.  Once I was able to get a hold of him I was headed out for a quick run to sort through my thoughts and focus on my defense.  As I told him he had just as many questions as I but surprisingly was extremely open to the opportunity.  We both agreed we would pray about it and go to the temple and let her know.
Long story short we have decided it is time to expand our family.  The birth mother of our baby has been very open with us and we feel so very blessed we have had to opportunity of letting her into our family and lives.
Our baby girl is due August 28.  With her other children she has been 3-4 weeks early so we are expecting an early August baby.  Oley and I are extremely happy, nervous, and anxious for her to arrive!  Oley is going to be a great dad, every outfit we have bought so far has had to say something regarding Daddy's little girl.  The best thing about this whole process is we have realized that God really has a hand in everything that we do.  Had Lauralynn not taken this job last summer she would have never met the birth mom (I need to talk with her and see if I can mention her by name cause she deserves all the credit).  And as we have moved around we have been in wards in which a member of the bishopric has worked at LDS Family Services.  We feel that this is a real blessing and are grateful that our last bishop in Spokane was employed there and  helped us realize how great this organization is.
So Friday after Oley's job interview we were able to attend the mandatory adoption education classes.  It was a great class and we learned an extreme amount.
After our Saturday class we met up with Dave, Michelle, Conner, Damon, Grandma, and Grandpa to get some lunch in Renton and then show them our house.  We were so glad to have company but at the time we still had A LOT of unpacking to do.  Thank goodness Oley has had a little bit of extra time and has been able to get some of the electronics and everything else unpacked.  So now the living area of our house is fully unpacked and no longer looks like we live out of boxes.
Sunday we attended our church meetings for the first time, as usual we were late, one of these days we will make it on time.  Waiting for us were church callings.  Oley will be the new Deacons Quorum Adviser and Assistant Scout Master, and I am the new Laurels Adviser.   They should be a lot of fun and we are really excited to get to know the youth and help them on this journey.
We love our new neighborhood.  It's the first place we have lived that I feel extremely safe.  We are surrounded by military personnel and there are cops that live everywhere within here, for example we have a sheriff that lives a couple houses down and then another that lives around the block, it just seems like an extremely nice quiet place.  There are little kids everywhere so really family friendly with parks and walking trails throughout.  Being able to take our dogs on walks and enjoy the beauty of the northwest is one of our favorite nightly rituals.

We are so grateful for the hand that the Lord plays in our lives.  It's the small things around us that are our constant reminder that he is our Savior and that through him all things are possible.  As we have gotten to know the birth mom better and understood her experiences and circumstances we can see the help that the Lord has been providing her as we pray for her and keep her in our thoughts constantly.  We are excited for all this new change and hope that we will be able to continue to live in a way that the Lord can continually bless us!
